Sola Scriptura - the only way to truth.
FOR ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PROTESTANTS and others, ARE CONVINCED OF 'SOLA SCRIPTURA' BEFORE THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN, (and for any serious student of the bible for that matter)
- here's what most of them understand from the bible.....
1. During the 1st century, *before* there was a bible, the Holy Spirit confirmed the spoken Word of God with the miraculous. (See Heb. 2:1-4, Mark 16 19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them AND CONFIRMED HIS WORD BY THE SIGNS THAT ACCOMPANIED IT. )
2. 1 Cor. 13 explains the further purpose of the miraculous. In an early church, a man would stand up and speak in an unknown language. Then another man would stand up and interpret this message. Then a third man stood up and said an Amen to verify what had taken place was a word from God. Then they all sat down.
3. Paul explains about "the Perfect" in Cor 13, that the imperfect (miracles) would be replaced by the Perfect (the bible) and no longer be necessary. This is why no 1st c. bible miracles have happened since the time of the early church. The bible is supposed to be taken as better than the miraculous b/c it's God's final say for humanity for all time. We're the only ppl in history that have lived in such a grand time for 2000 years.
This is why non-Catholics use the bible alone. Since the Word claims to be completely inspired and non-Catholics are convinced of that truth, there's no need for any Magisterium, Tradition, or hierarchal system not described in the Word of God. This is also why Jesus when confronted by Satan quoted the WORD of God, and not tradition. Jesus is our model. If He quoted scripture, we're to do it too.
Hope this helps someone. God bless
